PROCEDURE

Mohali Defence Academy Armed Forces Preparatory Institute

The Mohali Defence Academy is a dedicated place to prepare oneself for permanent service commission through the NDA, also known as the MDA AFPI. The academy began its training of students in April 2021 and was established in Sector 61, Mohali, by Colonel VPS Sekhon. The academy’s curriculum is framed to train 48 cadets through an integrated course of two years, popularly known as NDA cum schooling.

Why MDA -AFPI?

Amid the cut-throat competition among the aspirants to secure a well-earning place equated with an honour, viz. a job in the Indian Defence Services, it is Mohali Defence Academy again that has stood apart in terms of the best student enrollment to student selection ratio in the tri-city. With the hard work of the director, Colonel VPS Sekhon, and his skilled staff, he has made his students' dreams come true. Mohali Defence Academy prepares students for the National Defence Academy, AFCAT, CDS, Territorial Army, Sainik School, and Rashtriya Military School entrance exams. The academy also excels in personalised coaching programmes with the help of retired army officers who have worked as group testing officers and psychologists in service selection boards. Mohali Defence Academy follows a well-defined curriculum for all the courses it offers. It is worth noting that Prabhjot Singh (Author of Conceptual Mathematics and Target AFPI), who has a charismatic personality and a keen vision, has been SSB recommended five times for the prestigious Indian Armed Forces. He is now helping the students to achieve excellence in their ambitions to secure a defence sector job at the earliest. He himself is a role model for many individuals, and it is no surprise that he is carrying out his responsibilities in a well-defined manner. Mohali Defence Academy, by all means, presents a one-stop solution for students looking to secure a defence officer position.

Our Training

The five major aspects of training at Mohali Defence Academy are:
  • All selected cadets complete their secondary education after passing the tenth standard in the non-medical subjects (Maths, Physics, Chemistry, English, and Physical Education; where Computer Science is an optional subject). For completing cadets' schooling, the Mohali Defence Academy has a contractual arrangement with a CBSE-affiliated school named Shemrock, which is located in Sector 69, Mohali.
  • Cadets at Mohali Defence Academy complete physical training equivalent to National Defence Academy standards. All sports competitions, including volleyball, football, cross-country, swimming, hockey, boxing, basketball, gym, squash, golf, and lawn tennis, are organised periodically. Shooting has also been taught at an indoor shooting range.
  • Cadets will learn soft skills, communication skills, officer-like qualities, body language, and the art of study. We frequently organise debates, group discussions, and personality development programmes.
  • Regular coaching classes for the NDA written entrance examination and service selection board interviews by the team of experts.
  • Unlike others, we also prepare cadets for IIT Jee mains along with NDA preparation so that the aspirants can apply for the 10+2 technical entry scheme to ensure their entry into the armed forces after 10+2.

Entrance Procedure

Every year in November, the academy publishes an advertisement in all Punjabi, English, and Hindi newspapers inviting applications from the interested candidates for a written exam for 400 marks, which is usually conducted in January every year in the offline mode, followed by an interview for 400 marks and a medical round. The written test consists of 60 questions on mathematics and 40 questions on English. The result of the written exam is usually declared in 15 days, and the top 151 cadets are shortlisted for the interview round. The aim of conducting an interview is to offer the seats to the deserving candidates. Final merit is evaluated based on the aggregate score of the written exam and interview. In medical rounds, medical officers usually check cadets for internal disabilities, if any. Finally, all 48 selected cadets are called to start their NDA-cum-schooling course for two years in April.

Faculty

The academy's staff consists of interviewing officers, psychologists, a warden, accountants, a head clerk, a librarian, a drill instructor, a physical training instructor, and experienced teachers for all subjects.
